Episode 95: Jason Schneiderman
Rachel Zucker speaks with poet Jason Schneiderman about his newest book of poems, Hold Me Tight (Red Hen Press, 2020)
Dear Listener,
Our first face-to-face interview since the global lockdown, this newest episode with Jason Schneiderman is a dive into the celebratory and the sorrowful. We hope that Rachel and Jason’s conversation about the queer record, marriage, divorce, tenderness, anger, clickbait, and thirst traps ring true for you. Make sure to buy Jason's new book Hold Me Tight (Red Hen Press, 2020) and read more of his brilliant work.
Jason Schneiderman is the author of four books of poems: Hold Me Tight, Primary Source, Striking Surface, and Sublimation Point. He edited the anthology Queer: A Reader for Writers. His poetry and essays have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including American Poetry Review, The Best American Poetry, Poetry London, Grand Street, and The Penguin Book of the Sonnet. He is an Associate Professor of English at the Borough of Manhattan Community College and teaches in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
This month, in honor of Pride, we’ll highlight some of our favorite episodes with queer writers from the archives on social media and offer suggestions of organisations to support. Please consider making a donation to the Ali Forney Center, an organization dedicated to providing housing and support to LGBTQ youth.
Rachel and Jason are hosting a Talkback on Zoom this Friday, June 25th from 4-5 PM EST. They plan to talk more about gay history and literature and answer some of your questions, so click here to register in advance (but you can also just drop in!).
Let us know what you want to hear them talk about, what questions you have about the episode, about Jason, about Pride, about poetry, or anything else. You can Tweet at us, DM us on Instagram, talk to us on Speakpipe, leave us a voice message at (347) 762-3405, or even just reply to this email.
As always, thank you for listening and for your endless support.
Love,
Nancy + The Commonplace Team
