Episode 128: Hey, It’s Me Feed Drop from KTCO

Welcome to a new podcast by Mike Sakasegawa and Rachel Zucker: Hey, It’s Me. In this feed drop from Keep the Channel Open, Mike asks Rachel: “What are we going to talk about? And are we really doing this?” We hope you enjoy this strange, relatable, meta meta meta conversation on friendship, social media, relationships, and beyond.

Dear Listener,

Leigh here, Commonplace’s mostly behind-the-scenes transcript wizard. We have a different kind of episode for you today - Episode 1 of a brand new podcast called Hey, It’s Me, from Rachel and host of Keep the Channel Open (and friend of Commonplace!) Mike Sakasegawa.

I’m pretty sure that other than Rachel and Mike I’m the only person who’s heard Hey, It’s Me (I’m also doing transcriptions for Hey It’s Me), and I have to tell you, it’s a trip. Described as “a podcast in which two friends try to figure things out,” each episode leads us on a winding exploration of friendship, the triumphs (and, sometimes, failures) of communication, conversational subtext, pop culture analysis, and self-reflection. Hey, It’s Me puts a microscope to Rachel and Mike’s relationship, allowing listeners to both experience two friends chatting about their current fixations and internal musings, while simultaneously witnessing these friends interrogate the nature of the very friendship displayed on the podcast in real time. We go for a wild, telescopic trip where conversation is both the thing itself and its own object of study. I wish I could give you something more concrete, but you’ll just have to listen to understand. Buckle up for conversations about gender, neurodiversity, TikTok, Star Trek, race, dating, and so much more.

You can find the first two episodes and future episodes at Hey, It’s Me, or wherever you listen to podcasts, and more from Mike Sakasegawa here.

Commonplace will return in just a few weeks with Reading Eugenia Leigh’s Bianca, an episode recorded at a Reading with Rachel salon with Eugenia Leigh.

Would you like to be part of the Reading with Rachel salons? There are two sessions left in this cycle:

That’s all for now. We wish you any and all the joy you can find in these challenging days.

Until next time,

Leigh & the Commonplace Team
